Anime is a Disease.
Why Anime poisons everything it touches, including young men, young women, and Right Wing politics.
Before we even start, I’ve had this discussion a few times IRL. Anime viewers will tell me I “just haven’t seen enough to judge it”, or “you’re only looking at the bad apples”. Maybe, but I’ve definitely seen anime before. Here’s a list:
Vinland Saga S1, some of S2
Deathnote (All time favorite, seen it like 5x)
Cowboy Bebop
Elfen Lied
Sword Art Online S1
Attack on Titan S1-2
Like 5 Studio Ghibli movies (I particularly love Spirited Away)
about 30 episodes of Naruto
All Out!!
Highschool of the Dead E1-5
Full Metal Alchemist S1
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Goblin Slayer (unfortunately)
A few various episodes of: Code Geass, Berserk, Bleach, Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate, Soul Eater, One Piece, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure
Idk if you count these kids cartoons but: tons of Pokémon, Dragon Ball / DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh and all of Avatar the Last Airbender, etc. I would consider these at least anime adjacent.
So I’ve almost certainly never seen your super niche, “really good and it’ll change your mind on anime” series- nor do I really care to.
Now the question should be, “why have you seen so much anime if you hate the genre?”. Good question! IDK
Anime is as bad for society as cigarettes and alcohol. Probably fine in moderation, seriously worrying in excessive amounts.
There are good animes. There are some amazing stories told through the artistic medium of anime. That doesn’t excuse the fact that the genre itself is destructive in the lives of young men, a slow burning sickness that can be impossible to detect until its terminal.
1. Look at what it does to the young men that watch it
You can almost always smell anime on young men. How?
Anime reinforces anti-social, degenerate behavior that certainly contributes to the mental illness explosion in young men. Consider the isekai genre: a young man, almost always a loser that cannot fit in with greater society, is magically transported to another world that caters to his every whim. Beautiful women with exaggerated sexual features converge on his location, “chosen one” plot in hand, ready to crown him king or whatever through no effort of his own.
Imagine taking someone that’s already unadjusted and weird, and telling him that this is how the world works. Many boys and young men that see this will form parasocial relationships with the characters in these shows, specifically the women. Waifus, anyone? Isekais, and anime at large, reinforce this behavior to tell young men that they are not the problem. Part of being a successful man is ownership, of your faults especially. Anime provides an outlet for this energy to be directed into ownerless nothingness: watching the Revenge of the Nerds style comeuppance for the loser protagonist, feeling the satisfaction of the loser’s ultimate victory without having to improve oneself. You might think I’m exaggerating about the parasocial relationships, but the proof is in the behavior of committed anime viewers:
A troubled 14 year old that sits by himself at lunch still has a chance to be normal. A 14 year old that discovers anime has about a 50% chance of turning into this:
Now, you might object to this because you know X number of younger anime viewers that appear to be well-adjusted. I think this line of reasoning betrays a lack of hindsight, perhaps one I’ve acquired by being a little older than most of you.
In the 2000s, the Anime fan stereotype looked like this:
Partly because Anime was still relatively niche (Although my beloved Death Note was beginning to change this, culminating with some kid writing George Bush's name in a homemade death note lmfao), partly because it was the Bug Light / pressure release valve for the fringes of male society.
Where do you think these guys went?
They’re still there. The only difference is, the internet acts as a walled garden (or a cave) that allows them to hide, blending in with anime pfps and a retooled “ironic” sense of humor (that we will get to later). These guys are still out there, only they’ve morphed into Discord Nitro users and Reddit moderators. You don’t see body pillows and fedoras in public anymore because they receive all the Anime stimulation that they need online.
When Anime fans do reveal themselves in public, its almost always embarrassing. Remember the “Eren Yaeger fans”? This “He’s literally me!!” syndrome is not new in the Anime world. Anime acts as a bubble, a safe space, for the dregs of male society to reinforce and affirm their poor behavior instead of being confronted with reality.
In the early 2010s, these guys and their progeny (Like pedophiles, Anitards reproduce via grooming instead of conception) morphed into weeaboos, entitled and generally repulsive anime obsessed losers that acted enlightened because they practiced Japanese on Rosetta Stone. This was the last time the internet had a majority consensus against Anime, Weeaboos were not welcome in most online spaces and were mocked endlessly for their disgusting behavior.
One important cultural note: the newly christened legions of 2010s anime fans never tried to refute the central point, that excessive anime viewers are gross, instead they cleaved out a smaller subset of “acceptable” anime fans: Otakus. The original “trad LGBTQ without the +”, these were some of the first people ever online to trot out the “I do X gross thing but don’t make it my whole personality!” argument. Of course, that doesn’t work. If you eat poop sandwiches, you’re not any less weird for only doing it occasionally.
[I decided against including a picture of Subway Spyro here. Yw.]
However, this defense mechanism of “agree and deflect” would become mainstream for post 2016 anitards- surrounded in a thick armor of irony. Again, we will get to this.
2. Look what it does to the young women that watch it
This section could easily be renamed “Look at what anime did to western sexuality”. Somewhere around 2016, anime viewership reached critical mass in young men. Suddenly, Anime was cool to watch. Considering that this was also the first time that Black content creators started achieving real cultural impact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the rise of groups like RDCWorld brought anime to the mainstream with its momentum.
It should also be noted that this was when Anime first started making inroads into the social circles of the “classically weird”: Theater kids, band kids, Mexicans specifically but minorities in general, Nerds, Geeks, etc.
Anyway, the point is that Anime became something that nobody could ignore or sideline anymore. It was a cultural phenomenon. It also almost completely retooled the sexuality of young men, thus forcing young women to compete with it.
Anime and Sexuality (NSFW images below)
Japan has some honestly pretty gross sexual taboos. They do this thing where they want to appear as a sexually conservative country, but they also revel in the “secretly naughty” trope of having sexual skeletons in the closet. They express this in very odd ways, such as the infamous black bars over what is obvious a penis in manga:
The Thrill of “We’re censoring it doe!!!” while being naughty is somehow alluring to them.
The Japanese are also known for indulging every conceivable fetish, including the infamous “meme” of school uniforms (which is pedo adjacent, btw), women being penetrated by octopuses, and whatever else in the Hentai world that I don’t care to know about.
The point is, Anime had a sort of homogenizing effect on these fetishes. People with outlandish fetishes began to understand that they had very solid overlap with people in other niche, taboo circles - including Anime, a genre known for it. Very soon, the collective subconscious began to associate anime viewership with the sexual oddities of the Japanese. Moreover, Anime’s going mainstream brought a nuclear explosion of anime-themed porn, porn artists, Twitter “lewd artists”, etc.
A quick digression, I know someone reading this (Perhaps FasciRTS..) is going to say “not all anime is like that!!!!!”. I get it, Pokemon is probably fine lil bro. But, you can’t deny the link between Anime and porn. Even some of the tamest Animes have sexual content, so much so that “ fan service” is a trope of Anime:
I’m sure some percentage of Anime fans don’t interact with Hentai at all. But, it can’t be many. First of all, if Anime is where you spend your screen time, it only makes sense that you stay in the genre for porn, especially when you watch so much of it. I have accidentally come across so much porn of female anime characters. If Rei Ayanami is your “waifu”, and some Anitards literally “love" her, why wouldn’t you seek out a drawing of her tits?
Also, Anime is infamous for sexualizing anything, partly as a result of irony poisoning:
Anime without porn is like Jeb!’s “weed on my lips without inhaling”. While technically possible, everyone knows what the implication is. Anime fans love the game of “spotting” one another, especially in public, and playing the stupid game where they reveal increasingly taboo things about themselves to see if others are equally as weird.
Test: Type any fetish into google images and click images. If its something that exists IRL (feet, obesity, armpits, etc) you’ll probably see real women doing it, perhaps in known sexualized anime poses (sometimes done as part of the above “spotting” game). Anime drawings will follow after. If its something that cannot exist IRL (Vore), the first row of drawings WILL be from an anime, or drawn in anime style.
Cue Reddit, a bulwark of Terminal Anime Illness and its accompanying terrible memes:
Anime’s emergence has also normalized some of the most disgusting “traditional” taboos in Western sexuality, such as transgenderism and pedophilia (and homosexuality, but that ship sailed before anime really emerged). It does this in a somewhat clever way, giving a “reason” for the behavior to exist, or another reason to like the character outside its obvious sexual grossness.
Excusing the existence of “Astolfo” because HE is a knight or whatever is gas chamber tier. I think Astolfo is a historical figure too, which is even worse.
How can women compete? In the same way biological penises cannot compete with a pulsating 12” dragon dildo, women cannot compete with anime women. So, they act like them. They do this to catch up, and to lure in lonely young men with the “that’s right, I’m a beautiful young woman who is just as weird as you”:
Outside of sex, I’ve just seen women behave in these weird ways they didn’t even 10 years ago. Especially those that frequent twitter, tiktok, etc. I can’t really prove this, but I’m sure you’ve seen women (those inclined to playing pick me girls especially) adopting the mannerisms of cardboard anime characters, to include their poses and noises. Strange.
EDIT: In my efforts to hurry past the sexual grossness of anime, I completely forgot about “loli” and other passive endorsements of pedophilia. Reminder that these people will do such mental gymnastics as “its a thousand year old woman in a 12 year old girl’s flat chested, undeveloped body” as an excuse for sexualizing children. This video perfectly encapsulates these freaks:
Closing thoughts: here are some of the terms Anime has helped make mainstream for young people.
“cunny”
“bussy” or “___ssy”
“femboy”
“twink”
“girl/femcock”
“maid” or “catboys”
catgirls
Are these the fruits of something positive for society?
3. Look at the greater impact anime has had on society
So far we’ve discussed Anime in the 2000s and 2010s. Fast forward to today and Anime is hugely popular, taking the throne in entertainment over basically everything but the most normie-crafted, generic entertainment possible. Viewership rates are skyrocketing, weekly viewership hours are soaring, and people are more comfortable than ever discussing anime. Anime is so popular that the usual wave of subversives have docked on its shores: the “gender diverse”, metrosexual blacks, university professors, etc. all seeking to insert themselves into another hobby nerds failed to gatekeep. Warhammer, you’re next!
So, Anime’s reign in the cultural discourse has arrived. What has it brought?
Endless Irony, Mental Illness, and a new wave of sexual degeneracy.
Remember how I talked about how “Otakus” always conceded the main point, deflecting and agreeing instead of actually changing their behavior? This reached its terminal zenith right around 2016.
Now, Anitards roll off the assembly line equipped with Irony as a self defense mechanism. Its honestly really obnoxious.
It works the same way it did with Otakus, agreeing and deflecting. Now, Anitards have made a mascot of this. They have “smug anime pfps”, cattily speak only in lowercase, and are effectively incapable of reasoning through something. Instead, they trade in “killshots”, incessantly trying to dunk on people even with little retarded tropes that they make up in their heads. “If you criticize something, its because you’re secretly into it” is a killshot that anime pfps spam.
Any criticism of anime is met with smug deflection, or just “yup” agreeance. “yup, its awful”, “yup, I’m weird”, “yup, its gross and the writing sucks”, “yup, I watch it for the fan service”. This reaction allows them acquire a new illness of modernity, the inability to take anything seriously, ever. It’s like Flats from Spongebob punching him over and over to no affect.
Moreover, they know this and love it. They love knowing how much other people hate their habits. They love being mocked, or being told that they’re losers. Similar to the Japanese sexuality archetype, they love the “naughtiness” of bringing up Anime where it doesn’t belong.
There’s something so devilish about bringing Anime into an active warzone that it makes their tiny little brains whir with ideas. They’ve even developed characters to embody this “shitty on purpose” trope:
The meme around this thing is all about the "putting anime where it doesn’t belong”, “laughing along with how stupid it is” defense mechanism.
Its essential for Anitards to feel like they’re in on the joke by coopting and hijacking the punchline. Its a desperate attempt to make their critics laugh with them instead of at them.
iFunny Note: Attacking anime on the app has provoked some legitimate mental illness reactions. All-lowercase Anime pfps have gone feral any time I’ve made a post merely implying a criticism anime. I’ve seen legitimate spergout hysterical temper tantrums from them in their own posts and corners of the app, trying so hard to dunk on me that they straight up lie before tagging all 75 of their Discord servers for backup. I’ve found out that I’m any combination of fat, brown, a short Mexican, Dravidian, gay, selling feet pics, etc. all from terminal anime viewers. Just recently, one of them tried inviting me to a group chat to pull my IP. Lol
While this aggro reaction (instead of the typical agree and deflect) is likely influenced by actual mental illness, broken family lives, substance issues, etc., it reinforces that people who watch Anime stop possessing critical thinking over time. They have to invent a Killshot because that’s all they’re capable of. And, all of their little lowercase anime pfp friends from Twitter, Reddit, and Discord reaffirm it. Attacking Anime is attacking their identity. It’s honestly sad because you can feel the heat from their frustration and anger radiating off their little killshot attempts.
One more thing: where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Anime always accompanies the worst of online behavior.
In the same way that people forget that men who touch boys are homosexual as well as pedophiles, people conveniently forget that the groomers, “trans activists”, and other scum on the internet are typically Anitards.
Anime pfps, references, discussions, etc always inhabit the deepest recesses of Discord, or imageboards where grooming occurs.
4. Anime is destroying the new Right Wing movement.
Now, I’m not someone that says the government is behind every negative event. But, I can’t help but feel like some 3 letter agency has pulled off a psyop to make Anime trendy and fashionable in Far Right spaces. There’s just no reason that Eurocentric Right Wingers are so fascinated with gook tunes.
For the longest time, I couldn’t understand the correlation. Why are Internet Nazis, of all people, so enamored with Anime? You know what I’m talking about:
The only answer I can come to, unfortunately, is mental illness. Anime and internet Neo-Nazi circles are both typically full of people that are not well. Think about what Anime was in the 2000s: a coping mechanism for losers. Well, many of those losers frequented /pol/ and other Far Right spaces. Not all Far Right people are losers, but its certainly an isolating ideology - and (isolated) birds of a feather flock together. Over time, Anime became a mascot of sorts, one that has been grafted into the new Far Right on iFunny etc.
As we’ve discussed, Anime brings all kinds of disgusting (perhaps even degenerate) problems with it. Anime’s values: sexual fetishes and sexual promiscuity, loser-affirming plots, Non and anti-Western themes, all of these are completely opposed to the Far Right. Yet, it endures in Far Right spaces.
This is blatant doublethink: holding two contradictory ideas as true in your head at once. You cannot be a “card carrying neo-Nazi” and frequently watch anime. Again, I wouldn’t be surprised if this were some sort of demoralization campaign from an NSA laboratory somewhere.
Note: the people that can only think in killshots might think this is an attempt at one. Not so. While I am not a National Socialist, I share some overlap with them on stuff like a White homeland etc. If anything, the conclusion that NS and anime are tied via mental illness is friendly fire. I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t think it were genuinely true, and I think its a sad conclusion to reach in general.
Conclusion
There’s a lot more I could say. I never got into the poor writing of Anime itself, which I particularly hate. The little 2D characters with paper thin writing annoy me almost as much as the little noises and poses Anime characters make. I also hate how Anime makes people want to act like wounded lions: mysterious and moody with a sensitive side.
Also, don’t take any of what I said about Anitards at large personally. If you don’t think you embody the worst of Anime viewership, you probably don’t. I’m talking about tens of millions of people, after all.
To end on something positive, I’ll say that a lot of the backgrounds in Animes are really gorgeous:
My reaction seeing the notification to this was on par with a nu-male watching the new star wars trailer
The Anifesto is RELEASED. Sorry for the long absence, fellas.
